Since 2004, Prof. Reinhard Sterner has held the Chair of Biochemistry at the University of Regensburg, following his tenure as a Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Cologne. His research focuses on protein design, enzyme structure-function relationships, and allosteric interactions in multi-enzyme complexes, with particular emphasis on the evolution of enzymatic mechanisms and their applications in biotechnology.
The Sterner Lab employs cutting-edge methodologies in protein engineering, ancestral sequence reconstruction, molecular biophysics, and computational biology to explore the fundamental principles of enzyme evolution.
